Four Months After Detention without Trial, Former EFCC Chair Regains Freedom

Abdulrasheed Bawa, former chairman of Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), was released yesterday after he was continuously detained by Department of State Services (DSS) without trial in court.

Bawa, according to news reports, was released last night around 10:00 p.m. Bawa was arrested by DSS operatives on June 14 shortly after he was suspended by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

It was alleged that the former EFCC boss “abused” his official power as the leader of the anti-graft agency.

Dr Peter Afunanya, Director Public Relations and Strategic Communications of the DSS, confirmed this in Abuja today.

However, the service’s spokesman did not give details further details. “DSS confirms release of former EFCC chairman, Abdulrasheed Bawa, a  few hours ago, today, October 25,” he said.
