Fuel Tanker Explodes at Bauchi Filling Station

A petrol tanker exploded on Monday at Hamzat Ahmed Petroleum Station in Dass, headquarters of Dass Local Government Area of Bauchi State, destroying property worth millions of naira.

An eyewitness told WikkiTimes on Tuesday that although no life was lost in the incident, there were fears that some people may have sustained injuries.

According to the witness, the explosion occurred at about 5:20 p.m. while the tanker was parked within the filling station awaiting discharge of its petrol content.

“The fire started from the tanker that brought the fuel and quickly spread within the station,” the source said.

Officials of the Bauchi State Fire Service responded promptly and succeeded in containing the fire before it spread to other parts of the station.

Confirming the incident, the Director of the Bauchi State Fire Service, Dauda Pali, said the fire had been brought under control and no fatalities were recorded.

He noted that the cause of the explosion was yet to be determined, adding that investigations had commenced to establish what triggered the fire.

Mr Pali said the inferno destroyed two motorcycles, a tricycle, the station’s canopy and several pump nozzles, while other facilities were saved due to the timely intervention of firefighters.
