FUK Hosts Maiden UN Model Conference

The Department of Political Science and International Relations at the Federal University of Kashere (FUK) successfully organized a Model United Nations (MUN) conference to expose students to the practical aspects of the UN gathering.

The programme, which held at the Varsity’s entrepreneurship center on Wednesday, simulated global UN conferences, was aimed at training students in diplomacy, international relations, and global decision making.

Malam Salisu, the programme coordinator at FUK, provided an overview of the United Nations, highlighting its role in promoting peace and development since its founding in 1945.

The event featured students representing different UN delegates and officials, delivering speeches in the languages and diplomatic styles of their assigned countries. Key debate topics included Middle East geopolitics, the Ukraine Russia war, climate change, and global peace efforts.

Dr. Hamidu Ishaku, head of Political Science department, commended the students for their dedication and active participation, emphasizing the importance of critical thinking and problem solving in preparing for leadership roles in diplomacy and governance.

The event concluded with words of encouragement from university officials, expressing hopes for increased participation in future editions.

The model conference is set to become an annual event, aligning with the university’s motto of “education for global citizenship” and aiming to equip students with diplomatic skills and broaden their understanding of international relations.
