Abdullahi Ganduje, the Kano State Governor, Friday evening, paid a discrete visit to Ibrahim Shakarau, a two-term governor of the state, as rumours of the latter’s defection to the Nigerian Peoples Party (NNPP) lingers.
Accompanied by his entourage, the governor’s visit to Shekarau’s residence at Mundubawa, WikkiTimes learned was to convince him (Shekarau) not to leave APC.

Shekarau, who also doubles as the leader of the G7 faction that went to court on Kano leadership’s tussle, was said to have summoned a meeting of his top political associates and consultation team, known as the ‘Shura Council’, according to Daily Trust. The outcome of the meeting would determine Shekarau’s decision.
WikkiTimes gathered that Shekarau’s plan to join NNPP Is edged on his senatorial ambition in the coming 2023 elections, a situation that might not be possible under APC after having a parallel contest as one of the members of the G7 in the party.

In another development, Ganduje’s Chief of Staff, Ali Makoda, dumped APC for NNPP on Saturday morning. He confirmed his defection to Daily Trust via a text message.
Ganduje’s chances to influence Shekarau’s decision are slim, as it was gathered that some political bigwigs in the state stormed the latter’s residence after his meeting with the governor.
Some of them include the national leader of the NNPP, Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso and other bigwigs who earlier decamped from APC. They admonished Shekarau not to renege on his planned defection, WikkiTimes learned.
