Gombe State Government has approved a N35.3 billion infrastructure projects aimed at transforming the state’s urban landscape, expanding road connectivity and upgrading critical public facilities.
Governor Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya made the approvals on Wednesday when presided over the 51st and final meeting of the State Executive Council (SEC) for the year 2025 at the Government House, Gombe.
Briefing journalists after the meeting, the Commissioner for Works, Housing and Transport, Engr. Maijama’a Kallamu, said the council approved the construction of 6.3 kilometres of internal roads within the newly developed Family Homes Estate, extending to connect parts of Northern Tumfure, for N7.097 billion.
He disclosed that the council also approved the construction and reconstruction of strategic roads totalling 20.1 kilometres, with a cumulative cost of N26.7 billion, to improve traffic flow and open up emerging urban corridors.

The projects, according to the commissioner, include a new road linking the ATC area to the Gombe State University (GSU) Express Road; the reconstruction of Layin Speaker Road with an extension to Kasuwan Mata; and additional roads within the Special Capital Development Zone.
He explained that the road network will further extend from the Federal Teaching Hospital through the new State Secretariat Complex under construction, pass through Shongo Housing Estate and link up with the Western By-pass (Rumbuna Road), significantly decongesting major routes and enhancing access to government and residential areas.
Also, the council approved N714.3 million for the provision of roads and essential facilities at the Qatar Foundation site along the Southern By-pass, to ensure optimal utilisation of the facility for public benefit.
An additional N202.6 million was approved for the construction of a Gombe Geographic Information Systems (GOGIS) Area Office in the Shehu Abubakar District, strengthening land administration and urban planning.
The council also approved N669.9 million for the renovation and upgrade of the Gombe International Airport, Lawanti. The project includes the construction of a new administrative block, modern toilet facilities and other critical upgrades to bring the airport in line with international standards.
Engr. Kallamu noted that since the airport became operational in 2008, it has not undergone comprehensive maintenance, leaving many facilities obsolete.
He stressed that the upgrade is crucial, as the airport serves as one of the major gateways into the state and must reflect Gombe’s image as a modern, safe and investor-friendly destination.
