The Gombe State government has commenced the distribution of essential food items to vulnerable individuals across the state’s 11 local government areas.
The Government said this initiative aims to alleviate hardship amid the nationwide hunger cries in the country.
WikkiTimes reports that the state had earlier approved the distribution of the food items to ease hardship amid the nationwide hunger protest.
According to a statement by the Director General of Press Affairs, Ismaila Uba Misilli, each local government will receive 1,000 bags of 50 kg sorghum, 1,000 bags of 25 kg rice and 1,000 cartons of spaghetti pasta.
Misilli said the Government has dispatched truckloads of essential food items to all the 11 local government areas of the state for onward distribution to vulnerable people.
It partly read: “Special consideration has also been given to youths and women groups, and people living with disabilities, as directed by the Governor to ensure that the relief package reaches those who are mostly in need, especially in the face of the current economic hardship.
“This distribution is just one of many efforts by the government to support the citizens during difficult times.
“Governor Inuwa Yahaya remains committed to implementing effective measures to support the citizens and ensure their resilience to foster social stability amid economic challenges.
The Governor commended President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for “his numerous interventions and initiatives to address the economic challenges facing the nation in this challenging period.”
Recall that Governor Yahaya had earlier denied receiving food items from the federal government. It was not clear if the recent distributions of truckload of food items have any link to the federal government intervention.
