Gombe FRSC Records 377 Motorcycle, Tricycle Crashes in One Year

Felix Theman, sector commander of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Gombe Command, disclosed that 377 motorcycle and tricycle crashes were recorded between January and December 2022.

Theman stated this when interacting with newsmen in Gombe, the state capital.

He explained that the statistics with the command showed that the accidents were recorded from the motorcycles and three-wheeled motorcycle operators.

Theman said that most of the road traffic rules defaulters were underage children who were allowed to ride on the roads by their parents, which he described as an offence.

According to the corps commander, the state command has taken a drastic step to face the menace henceforth.

“We have received reports of children riding motorcycles who are under the age of 18, and their parents allow them to ride recklessly on the roads, which is causing a lot of accidents, especially in the state capital,” he stated, noting that the command in collaboration with the state judiciary, has established mobile courts to prosecute the erring members.

Theman further said that the FRSC operatives in the state had arrested many motorcycle operators for reckless riding within the period under review, warning the parents and guardians to monitor their children’s activities on the roads to avoid violation of the road laws.
