Hajiya Asma’u Yahaya, wife of the Gombe state Governor, on Saturday, distributed empowerment items to 512 women and youth in Gombe under the Jewel Care Foundation..
The distributed items included: 200 sewing machines, 100 clippers, 100 grinding machines and 200 wheelchairs for the Persons With Disabilities (PWDs).
Yahaya said the aim was to help the beneficiaries to be employers of labour and enable the State grow economically, while the wheelchairs were meant to also improve the quality of lives of PWDs by reducing their stress.

She appealed to the beneficiaries to ensure the judicious use of the items given to them and not to sell them.
In his speech Alhaji Hamisu Saulawa, Chairman Board of Directors Jewel Care Foundation, said the foundation was established in 2020 and had since then provided scholarships to the less privileged, as well as skills acquisition training and distribution of empowerment kits.

He also said that the foundation recently distributed food, clothing, among other things, to over 3,000 persons across the state’s 11 Local Government Areas.
In her remarks, Hajiya Aishatu Maigari, Commissioner for Science, Technology and Innovation, urged the beneficiaries to ensure they made good use of the items.
Malam Bala Gwani, Chairman, Cripple Association, Gombe State chapter, commended Jewel Care Foundation under the leadership of the Governor’s wife for the gesture which, he said, would go a long way in alleviating their sufferings. (NAN)
