Gombe Govt To Goje: Using State Machinery For Political Gains Not Wrong

Gombe State Attorney General and Commissioner of Justice, Barrister Zubairu Mohammed Umar, has said it is natural in democracy for the governor in power to use the machinery of government to enhance his political standing.

Goje has, through his counsels, accused Governor Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya, the attorney general and the state Acting Chief Judge, Justice Mu’azu Pindiga, of using state power to persecute him, his associates and supporters.

Responding to the allegations yesterday, the attorney general said it is natural for anyone that found himself in government to use the machinery of state to enhance his or her political standing.

“For instance, every project that has been sited everywhere, there is politics behind it. It is because either you want to compensate those who sympathise with you, or you want to entice those who have not supported you,” he said.

On the detention of Goje’s aide, he claimed that the state government reported the case to the police, “because the said Facebook post by Muhammad Adamu Yayari, could lead to a breakdown of peace in the state.”

He noted that it is in the interest of the state government that there is peace, progress and continuity for development to take place.

The commissioner further denied violating the Federal High Court order which ordered the state government from acting on the matter pending its ruling.
