Gombe United FC has ramped up preparations for the 2024/2025 Nigerian National League (NNL) season with a series of pre-season tournaments and training tours.
The team recently competed in the inaugural NFF-President Cup in Kaduna, held at the iconic Ahmadu Bello Stadium from November 12-20, 2024. Grouped alongside Basira FC, Zumunci FC, and Tete FA, Gombe United showcased a strong performance, topping their group with two wins and a draw.
Their journey in the tournament saw the team secure a 2-1 quarter-final victory over Kada Warriors Jr but suffer heartbreak in the semi-finals, losing 6-5 on penalties to M&D Football Academy after a 1-1 draw in regulation time. Despite the setback, the team quickly shifted focus, embarking on a pre-season tour in Abuja on November 20.
According to the club’s media officer, Shuaibu Muhammad, the players have remained resilient, undergoing light training sessions in preparation for their upcoming league campaign.
Speaking to WikkiTimes, Muhammad assured fans of the club’s commitment to bouncing back stronger. “The semi-final loss was tough, but the team is refocused and ready to tackle the challenges ahead. With support from our new General Manager, Mal. Anas Bamusa, we are determined to make this season a success,” he said.
He also urged fans to remain patient and supportive as the team rebuilds.Gombe United’s NNL journey begins at home against Sokoto United on December 15, 2024.
