Residents of Lawanti village in Akko Local Government Area of Gombe State are mourning the death of seven community members who were killed in a road accident in Potiskum, Yobe State, while travelling to Borno State for a wedding.
The victims—three males and four females—were all natives of Lawanti village. The accident occurred on Friday, plunging the community into grief.One of the bereaved parents, Malam Idris Lawanti, said he lost two daughters in the crash. He told WikkiTimes that one of them was nearing the completion of nursing school, while the other was in Senior Secondary School Two.

A community member, Idris Abubakar, described the incident as tragic and devastating, saying the village remains in shock over the sudden loss of several young people in a single day.Gombe State Governor, Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya, has condoled with the families and the Lawanti community. In a statement issued by his Director-General of Press Affairs, Ismaila Uba Misilli, the governor described the accident as a painful loss to Akko Local Government Area and the state at large.
He specifically commiserated with the District Head of Lawanti, Bello Hassan Babangida, who lost his sister and niece, as well as Malam Idris Lawanti Maigari and Idris A. Isah Lawanti, the councillor representing Akko Ward. The governor prayed for strength for the bereaved families and asked Allah to forgive the deceased and grant them Aljannatul Firdaus.
