Gombe Youths Urge Senator to Resume Work on Abandoned Bridge Project

The DadinKowa Youth Cooperative Association (DYCA) in Gombe State has appealed to Senator Danjuma Goje, the lawmaker representing Gombe Central, to revisit and complete an abandoned bridge project in Dadin Kowa, Yamaltu Deba LGA of the state.

In a letter addressed to the lawmaker and signed by the group’s secretary, Usama Yakubu Adam, the youth body expressed concern over the condition of the bridge as it poses a serious threat to lives, especially during the rainy season.

The association commended Senator Goje for initiating the project but lamented its sudden halt, which they said has left the structure more dangerous than before.

“The incomplete work has left the bridge in a more dangerous condition than before, especially during the rainy season, where erosion and flood risk have become heightened. Commuters, schoolchildren, farmers, and traders who depend on the bridge daily now face increased difficulty and danger in moving through the area,” the letter read in part.

They appealed to the lawmaker on the risk of erosion and flooding in the area and demanded immediate action to resume construction, implement temporary safety measures, and involve local stakeholders in monitoring the project’s progress.

“We believe that the well-being of your constituents should remain a top priority. We are therefore calling on your esteemed office to urgently revisit and resume the abandoned bridge project, ensure proper safety measures are put in place pending completion, and engage the local leadership and youth associations to foster better accountability and community involvement,” the group stated.

Speaking to WikkiTimes, Usama maintained that the work was started two years ago, and its incompletion compelled several houses to relocate, believing that the project would bring relief to the community if completed. “But now people are becoming hopeless,” he added.

He emphasised the importance of delivering on initiated projects, highlighting the urgency of community-driven oversight in ensuring infrastructure projects are sustained and completed.

Efforts to reach out to Senator Goje or his representatives to respond to the letter were not successful as of press time.
