Gov. Buni swears in new Yobe chief judge

Yobe Governor, Mai Mala Buni, on Tuesday in Damaturu, swore in Justice Gumna Kaigama as substantive Chief Judge of the state.

The governor said that the appointment of Kaigama was on merit and in line with the powers vested on him by Section 174 subsection (2) of the 1999 Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria as amended.

Buni also said that “the new chief judge is known for his impartiality, hard work, simplicity, selflessness and fearlessness among other personal qualities in discharging his duties.

“I am, therefore, confident in his ability to discharge his duties effectively in our collective quest for quick dispensation of justice and harmonious working relationship between the Executive, Legislative and Judicial arms of Government in Yobe.”

Kaigama was appointed Acting Chief Judge on Sept. 11, 2020 following the demise of the former Chief Judge, Garba Nabaruma, from protracted illness on May 19.

The new chief judge obtained his Bachelor of Law degree from University of Maiduguri in 1987 and was appointed Chief Magistrate Grade 1 in 1995. (NAN)
