Kapwa Wholeness Foundation, a non governmental organisation engaged in Youth Empowerment and fight against drug abuse, said it had rehabilitated 25 drug addicts within the past one year in Numan Local Government Area of Adamawa.
Managing Director of the Foundation, Mrs Eunice Mosu, stated this on Saturday in Numan during the flag-off of a youth empowerment programme organised by the foundation, in collaboration with General Board of Church and Society/United Methodist Church.
Mosu said the Foundation, which started a year ago, was working directly with grassroots youths, by focusing more on reaching out to those battling with addiction.
She stressed the need to curb poverty, cultism and drug abuse in the society, saying that these social vices were responsible for most of the problems of the society.
She commended the Adamawa Command of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) and Numan community, for their support to the Foundation.
The Managing Director, however, urged philanthropists and other NGOs to contribute their quota in complementing government efforts.
Also speaking at the occasion, the Commander of NDLEA in Adamawa, Mr Yakubu Kibo, lauded the Foundation for its contribution in the fight against drug abuse.
Kibo, who noted the role of hard drugs in violent crimes, said if drug abuse was checked, the rate of crimes would reduce drastically.
“Almost all the criminals do what they do under the influence of drugs; youth who are into drugs are always associated with crime,” Kibo said.
Highlight of the occasion included a rally around major streets of Numan town and sensitisation of the residents on the dangers of drug abuse. (NAN)
