A socio-political group in Toro local government area of Bauchi state known as FULBE NETWORK INITIATIVE has filed a criminal suit against the candidate of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) for house of representatives from Toro federal constituency in the 2019 election Alhaji Shehu Buba Umar before a magistrate court for allegedly defaming the character of the State Governor Mohammed Abubakar during a political rally.
Director General of the group Alhaji Ibrahim Adamu who disclosed this while addressing journalists yesterday in Bauchi explained that the organization seeks to protect the image of the governor and the ruling party in which they are cards carrying members.
He said the accused person on 30th day of December 2018 at a political gathering at Rinjin Gani, Toro local government defamed the governor and called him a ‘rat’. According to him, the PDP candidate also alleged at the rally that the incumbent governor received a donation of N300 million from Atiku Abubakar in 2015 to campaign with but had later betrayed the Waziri of Adamawa, the accusation he said dented the image of their political mentor (Governor Abubakar). “
The accused person speaks to the gathering in hausa language in the following words ‘ In 2015 I was personally given the sum of Three Hundred Million Naira by his Highness Wazirin Adamawa which I handed it over to M. A Abubakar which he took to Okene, we gave him this money which unfortunately you can now see the betrayal today. “Vote for us, vote for Kauran Bauchi to drag this rat away “. He said.
” The said statement of the accused person are defamatory and injurious to the person and office of the Executive Governor of Bauchi State, our party, the ruling APC, it is also capable of inciting disturbance as well as instigating innocent citizens to revolt against the constituted authority which may lead to the break down of law and order in the state”. He lamented.
Adamu said by the reason of the above particulars, the group wants the court take cognizance of the offences of intentional insult with intent to provoke the breach of peace under section 399, and defamation under section 391 of the penal code law of Bauchi state and to punish the accused person accordingly
