GSS Burra, Bauchi at 40: Old boys unite to resuscitate school

Government Secondary School Burra in Ningi Local Government Area of Bauchi is to benefit from a facelift and intervention from its former students in a resuscitation drive they planned for the school.

This was disclosed during the Annual General Meeting of GSS Burra Old Students Association (BOBA) which took place at SDI Conference Hall, Ningi.

Speaking during the meeting, Chairman of the Association Alhaji Adamu Hashimu who is the Permanent Secretary Bauchi State Government House said that the Association will look at the problems bedeviling the school and prepare modalities in which old students of the School will contribute in solving them by initiating projects to modernise the school.

Also Speaking, Professor of Samaila Idi Ningi from Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University said GSS Burra has done everything to their lives, thus they must give back to the School.

He pledged to do everything possible to restore the past glories of the School.

The Principal of the School Malam Musa Ahmad Reza explained that the School is a shadow of former self compared to what it used to be in the 80s.

He said the school is faced with problems such as lack of adequate teachers, hostels, learning materials and dilapidated school quarters.

Malam Musa added that currently the Ministry of Education did not admit any student to GSS Burra in 2019, a situation he described as frightening to parents.

Member representing Warji Constituency in the Bauchi State House of Assembly Hon. Yunusa Ahmad who is also an alumnus of the school said the meeting was a rare opportunity to meet people he hasn’t met for the past 35 years.

“Being one of the leaders of this Association, I am ready to offer myself for any service to serve GSS Burra because if we didn’t help the school which produced us, history will judge us” he said.

On the information that the Secondary School might be de-boarded by the Ministry of Education, Hon. Yunusa Ahmad said the old boys of the school will do everything possible to ensure that didn’t happen.

GSS Burra which was established in 1979 and has produced many prominent Nigerians including professors, doctors, federal and state lawmakers, permanent secretaries and many people who excelled in different walks of life, among whom, the current Speaker of the Bauchi state House of Assembly.
