Niger State Governor, Umaru Bago, has said that the state has secured a $10 million intervention from the World Bank to tackle gully erosion in some parts of Mokwa local government area of the state.
Governor Bago disclosed this while on a visit to the affected areas of Kpege, Efu Abebe, Eti Sheshi in the LGA to observe the situation which has posed a serious threat to the communities.
Bologi Ibrahim, Bago’s Chief Press Secretary, in a statement said the governor assured the people that with the the intervention, their age long suffering has come to an end.
According to him, competent contractors have been identified and will soon be mobilized to commence work.
He however, called on the people of the affected communities to give maximum cooperation and support to the contractors that will handle the project.
“Competent contractors, with track records, have been identified to handle the project which will commence soon”,he assured.
Earlier, residents of the affected communities told the governor that for a number of years, they have been subjected to hardship and uncertainties.
