Gunmen Kill Couples Working as Teachers in Plateau School

Gun-wielding men have killed Rwang Danladi and Sandra Rwang Danladi, both serving as teachers at Beco Comprehensive High School in Kwi, Riyom local government area of Plateau State.

Daily Trust reports that the couple married recently. The Vice Principal of the school was also injured in the Monday evening attack.

The gunmen opened fire on the victims when they were holding a meeting preparatory to this year’s Speech and Prize Given Day scheduled to hold on Friday.

Confirming the incident, Rwang Tengwon, Spokesperson of the Berom Moulder Association, alleged that the suspected gunmen opened fire on the victims after they were asked to move out with their cattle from the school compound 

“We are again, saddened over the invasion of BECO Comprehensive School, Kwi, where two staff, Mr and Mrs Rwang Danladi are reportedly shot dead and one Mr Dalyop Emmanuel Ibrahim, the Vice Principal of the School seriously injured by some known armed men alongside suspected bandits elements about 3:00 pm on Monday, 14th August 2023.

“The bandits entered the school compound with their cattle and interrupted the staff meeting. The staff had asked the herders to get their cows out of the school environment. But instead of complying, they brought out their arms and opened gunfire at the teachers.

“This resulted in the deaths of the recently wedded couple, Rwang Danladi and wife, Mrs Sandra Rwang Danladi, who are the staff of the school while Mr Dalyop Emmanuel Ibrahim, who is the Vice Principal of the institution, sustained a serious injury and is receiving medical treatment at the Jos University Teaching Hospital (JUTH),” he said.

Commenting, Garba Abdullahi, Chairman of Gan Allah Fulani Development Association, Plateau State, refuted the allegation that Fulani herders were responsible for the killing, adding that none of their members hovered with cattle in the area. 

He called on security operatives to bring the perpetrators of the act to book.
