Gunmen on Saturday shot dead a Yobe-based Islamic scholar, Sheikh Goni Aisami-Gashua at Jajimaji, the headquarters of Karasuwa local council of Yobe State.
The gunmen were reported to have followed and attacked the cleric on his way to Kano.
According to some Gashua residents who spoke to Channels TV, the incident took place around 10am at Jajimaji, less than 30 kilometers away from Gashua.

Police spokesman in the state, DSP Dungus Abdulkarim, confirmed the attack, adding that some suspects, who were in possession of AK-47 rifles have been arrested and are presently in police custody.
Despite the insurgency of Boko Haram ravaging the north eastern region, Gashua has remained one of the most peaceful and stable neighborhoods in Yobe State.
