Gunmen Kill Jalingo Woman, Kidnap Police Officer’s Wife and Daughter

Unknown gun-wielding men have killed a woman after they invaded the residence of one Mr Balanko Alex in Mile 6 area of Jalingo, Taraba State capital on Sunday.

The suspected gunmen invaded the residence of Mr Balanko, a serving police officer with Rivers State Police Command, firing aimlessly in an attempt to kidnap him, his wife and daughter allegedly for ransom.

SP Usman Abdullahi, Spokesperson of Taraba State Police Command confirmed the incident to reporters in a statement.

He disclosed that the woman died of a bullet injury at Federal Medical Center Jalingo. He added that the gunmen successfully whisked away the wife and daughter of Mr Balenko.

However, the police officer who also sustained injuries is currently receiving treatment at an undisclosed hospital in Jalingo.

He said police are on the trail of the suspected kidnappers, appealing to members of the public to provide information to the police to enable them to track down criminal elements in the society.

Incidences of kidnapping continue to soar in Taraba recently. Two days ago, unknown gunmen kidnapped 14 persons from Mayo Dassa but were later rescued safely. However, it is not clear whether a ransom was paid before they regained their freedom.
