In what seems like a coordinated plan, gunmen suspected to be robbers have simultaneously attacked five commercial banks in Otukpo local government area in Benue state killing not less than seven persons including the staff and customers.
A source in Otukpo Adakole John who confirmed the incident to WikkiTimes noted that the armed robbers during their raid invaded the banks unchallenged by the police.
Adakole noted that the rubbers successfully killed some bank customers and staff during their raid.
Another source Ene Christopher who also spoke to WikkiTimes noted the attack lasted for about two hours without any form of confrontation from the police or the military.
She further claimed that several lives were lost during Friday’s incident with bank customers and staff being the major victims.
However, in a statement on Saturday by the state police command the police public relations officer Catherine Anene noted the robbers were intercepted killing two of the criminals.
“On 20/10/2023 at about 1615 hrs, armed robbers invaded Access, First, Zenith, UBA, and Stanbic Bank Otukpo simultaneously.
“The Otukpo Divisional Police Officer, CSP. John Adikwu and other Police teams in the area engaged them in a gun dwell but were unable to prevent their attack on the banks.
According to Anene, the police teams in collaboration with other security agents were deployed to Otukpo and they were intercepted along Otukpo-Taraku road where two of the robbers died in a gun duel.
