Gunmen Snub Security Checkpoint, Invade Bauchi Community, Kidnap One

Gunmen suspected to be kidnappers in their dozens invaded Mararaban Liman Katagum, a Bauchi State suburb near a military checkpoint, abducting one Basalona Stephen, WikkiTimes can report.

Eyewitnesses told WikkiTimes the marauders besieged Mararaban Liman Katagum around 08:00 pm on Tuesday, shooting uncontrollably into the air before whisking away the businessman (Stephen) who resides in the community.

According to the sources, the abductors who came by 8:30 pm on Tuesday night started shooting sporadically before taking off the victim despite the presence of security agents at the nearby checkpoint in the community.

A shop attendant who is a neighbour to the kidnapped victim said: “They started shooting in air and people around were running to escape.” The source added that Stephen seem to be the major target for the kidnappers.

“They planned to abduct him alone, they came in numbers,” he stressed.

He explained that the kidnappers stood still at all strategic places before starting their heinous act. However, no one was killed or injured, he told WikkiTimes.

This comes exactly one year after a popular businessman who buys and transports cows from Bauchi to southern parts of Nigeria was kidnapped. Luckily, he escaped from his predators a few days later.

When contacted, the Bauchi State Police Command spokesperson, Ahmed Wakil, said that he was attending a lecture. However, a text message sent to him is yet to be responded to at press time.

The Mararaba incident is part of a series of attacks orchestrated by heavily-armed kidnappers and bandits terrorising the state.

Last month, WikkiTimes reported that gunmen invaded the family residence of a former PDP National Chairman, Ahmed Adamu Mu’azu, in his native Boto hometown, Tafawa Balewa local government area of Bauchi State, killing his 25-year-old nephew, Mu’azu Danladi, and kidnapping three other family members.
