Two large culverts along the Bauchi-Gombe road have been washed away by torrential rain, leaving hundreds of commuters and motorists stranded for hours.
The stranded road users were trapped at Bara, a village under the Kirfi Local Government Area of Bauchi State, along Bauchi-Gombe Federal Highway.
Ibrahim Kashim Mohammed, the secretary to the Bauchi State Government alongside a lawyer and a member representing Kirfi constituency in the Bauchi State House of Assembly, Abdulkadir Umar Dewu, addressed newsmen about the incident in Bauchi.
WikkiTimes gathered that the flood comes after torrential rain between Thursday evening to Friday morning. In addition, several communities around the area were overwhelmed by the flood.
Yusuf Abdullahi, the sector commander of the Federal Road Safety Corps in the state added that the episode happened about 10km away from Bara, along Gombe road, noting that no life was lost.
To him, efforts are ongoing to mend the road, remarking that it would take about one week for it to be motorable. Abdullah further urged motorists travelling through the road to seek alternative roads.
