High Expectations From Politicians Overstretches Security Agencies—Gov Bala

Governor Bala Mohammed of Bauchi state has observed that high expectations from the polity and politicians are one of the factors overstretching the security agencies in the country.

Bala made this observation on Monday when he received in the audience, members of the National Institute for Security Studies at the government house on a courtesy visit.

“There are high expectations from the polity, thereby overstretching our security agencies”, he said.

The Governor who expressed delight that the state government in synergy with security agencies have established a joint patrol team that is very robust, noted that it is being funded monthly to make team effective.

“I am very sure that our own security agencies are always on their toes going round to local governments that are more vulnerable because of their exposure”, the Governor said.

Bala who said Bauchi is a gateway to the northeast and Northcentral noted that the state is bordered by about seven states passing through the state with different levels of security challenges.

“Your coming together is a sign that the security the infrastructure of Nigeria is becoming very formidable and being reenforced with knowledge and best practice in a manner that there will be two-way traffic between the people and security personnel to make governance better”, Governor Bala said.

While recalling that the institute was established at the the time he was working as a Federalist, the Governor noted that the institute has come of age like its sister institutions such as the National Institute for Strategic Studies (NIPSS) and other institutions that are bequeathing knowledge on yearly basis.

Bala said that selection of his guests who came from different agency is an attestation of confidence reposed in them by their respective agencies.

“Definitely, from the speech of the syndicate leader, you are out to make sure you look around so that you don’t become armchair students”, the Governor noted.

According to him, by so doing they will have a touch and a feeling of what is going outside so that they will objectively adjudge the security infrastructure while looking at their gaps and other adequacies with a view to addressing them.
