The Federation of Muslim Women Association of Nigeria (FOMWAN) has urged Muslims and Christians in Kwara to live in peace following the state government approval of use of hijab in public schools.
Hajia Maimuna Shehu, Amirah FOMWAN, Kwara chapter, made the appeal in a statement on Thursday in Ilorin.
Shehu commended the entire Muslim women in Kwara for the wide consultation and peace meetings between Muslims and Christians stakeholders toward the restoration of understanding and peaceful coexistence.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the state government had approved the use of hijab in all public and grant-aided schools in the state.
Shehu advocated engagement on both conventional and social media devoid of campaign of calumny in order to restore peace in the state.
“We enjoin all stakeholders to accept, respect and abide by the rights of individuals without any form of inciting utterances.
“The association hereby reiterates that hijab is prescribed by Almighty Allah in the Holy Qur’an 24:30-31 for Muslim women and girl child to protect their chastity.
“Hijab is the right of every Muslim female and should be recognised and respected by God-fearing people,’’ she appealed.
The FOMWAN Amirah thanked Gov. Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq for the approval of hijab for Muslim school girls in the public and grant-aided schools in the state.
“We appreciate our dear governor for upholding the Kwara State Education Law, the prevailing court judgment and wide consultation-based decision in resolving the issue,’’ she said.
Shehu also called on the states Ministry of Education and Human Capital Development to speed up the designing of the appropriate uniform hijab for public and grant-aided schools in the state. (NAN)
