Houses destroyed as Tiv and Jkum tribes clash again in Benue

The protracted misunderstanding between the Tiv and Jukum tribes in Abinsi, Guma Local Government area yesterday resurfaced with burning of houses and property belonging to both camps.

Harvest FM gathered that the latest crisis emanated when two youths from both Tiv and Jukum tribes got into an argument which Metamorphosed into an inter-tribal fight leading to the destruction.

Although, there were no human casualties, hundreds of people were seen leaving the area with some of their belongings due to tension and to escape reprisal attacks.

Benue State Governor, Dr. Samuel Ortom who visited the area described the incident as unfortunate especially as it is coming at a time he and the Governor of Taraba, Architect Darius Ishaku were working hard to achieve peace.

Governor Ortom stated that a panel would be raised to investigate the remote and immediate cause of the crisis and assured that those found culpable including traditional rulers would be severely dealt with.

The Governor thanked the Benue State Commissioner of Police, Mr. Omolulu Bishi for taking swift action to bring the crisis under control, adding that he would support the recently launched operation python dance to go after youths with illegal arms. (Radio Nigeria)
