The Kano State Police Command has arrested three suspects in connection with the killing of a housewife and her six children in Dorayi Chiranchi Quarters of Kano metropolis.
In a statement issued on Sunday by SP Abdullahi Kiyawa, police spokesperson in Kano, the police said the arrests followed an intelligence-led operation carried out on the directive of the Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun. The suspects were identified as Umar Auwalu, 23; Isyaku Yakubu, also known as Chebe, 40; and Yakubu Abdulaziz, also known as Wawo, 21, all residents of Kano.
According to the police, the suspects were apprehended during a sting operation conducted between the late hours of January 17 and the early hours of January 18. Investigators said Mr Auwalu, who is a nephew of the deceased woman, confessed to leading the attack. He also allegedly admitted that the group was involved in other violent crimes in the state, including the killing of two women in the Tudun Yola area of Kano.

Police said items recovered from the suspects include blood-stained clothes, two mobile phones belonging to the victims, a cutlass, a club and some cash allegedly taken from the scene. The command said investigation is ongoing and assured that the suspects would be prosecuted.
The police also commended officers involved in the operation and thanked members of the public for their cooperation, reiterating their commitment to ensuring public safety and bringing perpetrators of violent crimes to justice.
