IGP inaugurates Police Advisory Committee in Gombe

The Inspector General of Police (IGP), Mohammed Adamu has on Monday, inaugurated the state Police Community Policing Advisory Committee in Gombe.


Speaking during the inuaguration of the Committee, the police boss noted that the Police cannot be everywhere at the same time, hence the need for community policing.

The committee would be co-chaired by Emir of Gombe, Dr. Shehu Abubakar Shehu and the Gombe State Commissioner of Police, Maikudi Shehu.


The Inspector General who was represented by Assistant Inspector General, (AIG) Haliru Gwandu, in charge of Zone 3, said there is no better time than now for the commencement of community policing.
According to him, the policy would help combat local crimes and criminalities at the grassroots level.
“I consider this timely and very crucial. The Nigeria police have continued to emphasize that, while the police cannot be everywhere, our communities are found everywhere.

Consequently safety and security will be better guaranteed when and where members of the communities are actively involved in crime prevention and community safety”, the IG said.


“Since the formal introduction of community policing approach in 2004, NPF has made community policing the cardinal focus of efficient service delivery”, he added.


Inspector- General further said that the emerging trend of crimes warranted the community policing strategy which is citizen- centered.

On his part, Gombe state Governor, Inuwa Yahaya said security is highly imperative, without which anarchy and lawlessness would dominate the areas making it practically challenging to contain.


The Governor further emphasized that development of any society is dependent on peace and security of the people which his Government places high premium.

“The provision of security is the number one priority of each government because when there is security, lives of the people and their means of livelihood will be protected as well as businesses which will cascade down to development”, the governor pointed out.


He assured that Gombe state under his watch will remain focused as far as security is concerned.
