The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has completed arrangements to conduct a rerun election in 42 polling units in four State House of Assembly constituencies in Bauchi State.
WikkiTimes reports that the rerun is coming after separate Court of Appeal judgements which nullified the declared results of the March 18 2023 state house of assembly election from Ningi, Zungur/Galambi, Bauchi and Madara/Chinade constituencies.
As a result of the decisions of the courts, a former Speaker of the state House of Assembly, Abubakar Sulaiman and his deputy, Jamilu Umaru Dahiru were sacked.
The Resident Electoral Commissioner in charge of Bauchi State, Mohammed Nura disclosed this on Thursday during a stakeholders’ meeting at his office preparatory to the February 3rd date set for the conduct of the exercise.
He said all election materials for the rerun have been received and are ready for deployment to the various polling units.
Nura insisted that the elections be conducted using BVAS for accreditation, authentication, and result upload to the IReV.
The Resident Electoral Commissioner said a three-day training of ad-hoc personnel is about rounding up today simultaneously across the affected LGAs and personnel are mostly members of NYSC who will work at the Polling Units
