INEC Strips Doguwa As Reps Member-elect

Independent National Electoral Commission INEC has removed the name of House of Representatives Minority Leader, Alhassan Ado Doguwa from the lists of elected members awaiting certificates of return after February 25th polls.

In a list published on its official Twitter handle, INEC removes Doguwa’s name from the members elected citing that his announcement as the winner of the elections was done under duress.

WikkiTimes recalls that Doguwa, a member of All Progressives Congress (APC) was announced winner of the Doguwa/Tudunwada Federal Constituency in Kano State by Returning Officer for the Constituency, Professor Ibrahim Adamu Yakasai having polled 39,732, votes to defeat his close opponent from the New Nigerian Peoples Party (NNPP), Yushau Salisu Abdullahi who got 34,798 votes.

It was gathered that there was a violence in Doguwa/Tudun Wada during the election and it claimed score of lives.

Doguwa would later be arrested in connection with the violence. He was arraigned before a magistrate court alongside others, for criminal conspiracy, culpable homicide, arson and illegal possession of firearms. Although a Federal High Court in Kano granted him bail yesterday.
