Insecurity: Christians Council Asks Christians, Muslims To Act Beyond Prayers

The Christian Council of Nigeria, CCN, has tasked both Christians and Muslims in Nigeria to do something beyond prayers to help the nation overcome its insecurity challenges.

Dr. Mercy Agene John, National Secretary of CCN stated this during a Four-Day Power Packed Prayer Revival For Peace in Nigeria in Bauchi on Sunday.

She said that considering the current insecurity predicaments of the country, it is important for believers in the land to as part of their civic obligations, move beyond supplications to embrace peace.

Dr. Mercy said that both Christianity and Islam preach peace, hence the need for adherents of the two religions to practice peace in their day-to-day activities.

“Aside from the prayer, we need to practice and show what we preach both in the two religions. I believe in that very strongly because I have attended so many inter-faith programmes where we rub minds and it shows that Qur’an, like the Bible, speaks peace.

“Why can’t we throw our differences and practicalise and demonstrate the peace we believed the two Holy Books teach?,” She asked.

She insisted that development and progress will only find expression in the daily affairs of Nigerians if peace is deemed a nonnegotiable variable that will punctuate every deal.

Reverend Sunday Olobo, organiser of CNN’s prayer programme, said it was tagged “Restoration” because of the situation in Nigeria today.

“If you look at what Nigeria is going through now, we need nothing but restoration, and when we are talking about the restoration here.

“We are talking about the peace and the joy of our land that the enemy called the ‘unknown gunmen’ have disturbed and turned it to a war,” he said.

WikkiTimes reports that the event also witnessed an administration of the second dose of Modena and Astrazeneca COVID- 19 vaccines.
