The Lafia local council in Nasarawa State has imposed a 12-hour ban on movements of motorcycles and tricycles within the metropolitan city.
The ban which starts from 6:pm to 6:am is in response to pockets of insecurity being witnessed in the city, according to Aminu Mu’azu Mai Fata, the council boss.
The council boss claimed that atrocities in the city were mostly perpetrated and aided by motorcyclists.
According to him, the action is not meant to witch-hunt anyone but to protect the lives and properties of the residents in line with the state government’s agenda.

He explained that motorcyclists are expected to operate between 6 am to 6 pm while movements of tricycles are expected to operate between 6 am to 8 pm.
Mai Fata who spoke to Breeze FM Lafia, warned that the council will not spare anyone found wanting.
He added that the decision was taken after an emergency stakeholders’ meeting involving heads of relevant security agencies.
The council boss appealed to the residents to report any breach of law and order to nearest security agencies, adding that residents are to go about their normal businesses without any form of intimidation.
Lafia, the Nasarawa State capital has witnessed a series of security threats, especially abductions of students, armed robbery and motorcycle snatching among others.
