The AA Zaura Foundation, a non-governmental organisation, has advocated the unity of members of the political class to end insecurity in the country.
Mr Abdulsalam Abdulkarim, Founder of the foundation, gave the advice while briefing newsmen on Sunday in Abuja.
Abdulkarim, stressed the need for all political actors to put aside their differences and support President Muhammadu Buhari’s efforts to end the menace in the country.
“Let me cite an example with countries like the U.S., where they say America first; are we also calling Nigeria first or we are calling division of parties.
“Let us put aside all our differences and face our people and face the country, definitely we will attain the level of maximum and optimum security.
“We will achieve it, we will get it right one day when all the political class and political gladiators come together.
“Our country needs this, we need to put Nigeria first like other countries put their countries and their people first, not ourselves, not our political parties,” he said.
Abdulkarim, who also spoke on the issue of youths engaging in drug abuse, attributed it to lack of employment and redundancy among the youth.
He, however, advised the youth to desist from such act and get themselves engaged by learning a trade.
“The issue of drug abuse is related to unemployment.
“Where people are redundant, where they do not have hope, they end up taking these substances that will make them intoxicated and put them in a life or moment where they have no worries.
“They think that is a solution to their problems, but that is a danger; like what President Muhammadu Buhari said, that drug abuse is bigger than banditry.
“This is something that has to do with destruction of human lives.
“I want youths to compare the lives of those who abuse drugs with the lives of those who do not abuse drugs.
“Even if you have no money, work or no education, let them learn a trade instead of abusing drugs.
“Drug abuse destroys lives, it destroys human being, they should learn a trade even if they have no education.
“Instead of taking drugs, we should know what to do with our lives and with our time.
“Someone who learns trade or knows how to work, will one day get it right and prosper, but he who engages in drugs will never get it right,” he added. (NAN)
