A former Kano State Governor, Senator Ibrahim Shekarau, has officially dumped the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) for the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
Shekarau, who currently represents Kano Central in the National Assembly, dumped the NNPP a few months after he decamped from the All Progressives Congress (APC).
Declaring his departure from NNPP on Monday at his Mundubawa residence in Kano, Shekarau said he had written to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to announce his withdrawal from the senatorial race for Kano Central under the NNPP.

Earlier, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) via its official Twitter handle disclosed that its members were in Kano to welcome the new party loyalist. However, Shekarau was formally received into the party by Atiku Abubakar, the party’s presidential candidate and the party’s national chairman, Senator Iyorchia Ayu, among other .
Other PDP stalwarts present during the incident include, the party’s vice presidential candidate and Governor of Delta State, Ifeanyi Okowa; Governor of Sokoto State, Aminu Waziri Tambuwal and Darius Ishaku, Taraba State Governor.
In attendance were also the former Vice President Namadi Sambo; PDP BoT Chairman; former governors of Jigawa, Saminu Turaki, and Sule Lamido among otehrs.
