The Jigawa Government has donated mattresses, blankets and other items to fast track relocation of inmates from the old Garu Satellite Correctional facility to the new one at Kakau village.
Mr Mohammed Sani, Public Relations Officer, Nigeria Correctional Service (NCoS) Jigawa Command, , confirmed the donation to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Tuesday in Dutse.
Sani said the items included 300 mattresses, 300 blankets, 100 mats, 400 mosquito nets, four bags of detergent, four cartons of soap, four water cans and two thermometers.
“In his effort to fast track the relocation of inmates from the old Garu satellite correctional centre in Dutse, to the new site at Limawa-Warwade Road at Kakau village, Gov. Mohammed Badaru of Jigawa, has donated starter materials for possible relocation to the new site.”
He stated that the items were presented to the NCoS Controller in the state, Mr Muazu Garba, by the Permanent Secretary, Government House, Alhaji Adamu Garin-Gabas, on Friday in Dutse.
The spokesperson noted that the permanent secretary urged the command to use the items judiciously.
According the spokesperson, the controller lauded the governor’s commitment toward reforming and ensuring safe custody and humane environment for the inmates. (NAN)
