Jigawa LGA Polls: Ex-Governor Lamido Alleges Plot to Exclude Opposition

Former Jigawa State Governor, Alhaji Sule Lamido, has accused the APC-led administration in Jigawa State of planning to manipulate the forthcoming local government elections.

Lamido’s allegations follow the recent announcement of prices for nomination forms by the Jigawa State Independent Electoral Commission (JISIEC) for the October 5 local government election.

The founding member of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) took to his Facebook page to alleged that the APC-controlled government has already secured victory in all the Chairmanship seats across the 27 Local Government Areas, as well as the 283 Councillorship seats, even before the elections have been conducted.

He pointed out that the prohibitive cost of nomination forms—N5 million for the Chairmanship and N2 million for the Councilorship—has effectively sidelined opposition parties, making it impossible for them to participate.

“While other states are protesting against hunger and poverty, congratulations to Jigawa for being the most prosperous state in Nigeria,” Lamido remarked sarcastically.

The former governor’s comments have sparked conversations about the fairness and transparency of the upcoming local government elections in Jigawa State.
