In an effort to clamp down on cattle rustlers, the Jigawa Police Command has arrested a notorious cattle rustler and recovered three cows suspected to have been stolen in the Kiyawa local government area of the state.
The police said it received a complaint at the Kiyawa Police Division about the activities of the rustlers who stole three cows valued at N1.35 million.
In a statement by the Command’s spokesperson, Shi’isu Adam Lawan, the police launched a manhunt on the suspected rustlers and recovered the cows.
“On November 13, at about 0800hrs, one Umar Musa, male, age 20, and Idris Ismail, age 30 years all of Malamawa village, kiyawa LGA, jointly lodged a direct complaint at Kiyawa Divisional Police headquarters that, on the same date at about 0300hrs unknown thieves criminally conspired and trespassed into their houses and stole away three cows worth one million one hundred and fifty thousand naira (₦1,150,000.00k).”
According to Adam, operatives from Kiyawa swung into action and recovered the cows at the residence of one Muktari Ibrahim of Sabuwar Unguwa Kiyawa, who confessed to having received the stolen cows from another suspect, now at large.
“Following a tip-off, the stolen three cows were traced and recovered in the house of one Muktari Ibrahim ‘m’ age 23 of Sabuwar Unguwa, Kiyawa LGA. When questioned, the said Muktari disclosed that he had received the cows from one Yusuf, who is now at large”, he added.
According to the statement, the stolen cows had since been released on bond to the rightful owners while investigation is on to arrest the fleeing suspect, adding that the suspects would be charged to court pending completion of the investigation
