Jigawa senator-elect to prioritise mechanised farming

The Senator-elect for Jigawa North-East, Alhaji Ibrahim Hassan, said on Monday that his priority was to make laws that would promote mechanised farming in his constituency.

Hassan, who is the Deputy Governor of Jigawa made the disclosure at a news conference in Hadejia, after being declared winner of the senatorial election.

According to him, mechanised agriculture will create wealth, job opportunities and accelerated industrialisation in the area.

“My constituency is endowed with numerous agricultural potential. I will do my best to introduce programmes and ideas that will modernise agricultural practice for industrialization.”

Hassan also promised to focus on education and youth empowerment programmes.

He, however, assured that he would frequently engage his constituents for their inputs on projects and programmes that would move the constituency forward.

The senator-elect thanked voters for giving him their mandate, saying he would never betray the trust reposed in him.

“I was humbled on the Election Day when I saw women, who joined the queue from morning to evening without eating, and they were not complaining.

“This proves to me that the people are very passionate about this election and that is why I will do everything possible to give them effective representation,” he said.

The News Agency of Nigeria (Nigeria) reports that Hassan of the APC scored 184,185 votes to defeat his closest opponent, Sen. Ubali Shitu of the PDP, who polled 103,039 votes.
