Jigawa state government says it will rehabilitate and construct new boreholes across rural communities in the state weeks after WikkiTimes’ report.
Alhaji Ibrahim Garba Hannun Giwa, the state commissioner of water resources told newsmen that the state will partner federal government and Unicef to execute the projects.
Hannun Giwa said the project worth 12 billion will make see the state provide potable water across its 27 local councils.
He said the federal government would provide 70 percent technical and other logistics for the special integrated water project, adding that the state government would also provide 30 percent of the total money to execute the water project.

Hannun Giwa added that UNICEF would also provide most of the needed tools for the special integrated water projects in the state.
The commissioner said the project will include 100 percent renovation of all broken hand pumps, construction of new pumps and provision of solar and motorized boreholes in rural areas in the state.
It will be recalled that WikkiTimes in an exhaustive investigative report revealed how rural communities still drink from dirty wells despite the claim by the government that 90% of residents enjoy access to clean and potable water.
The report detailed how residents in the state suffer inadequate potable water supply despite the N6 billion claimed to have been spent in providing water to residents.
