JNI Demands Apology From Plateau House of Assembly Over ‘Contemptuous’ Reference To Its President-General

Jama’atul Nasrul Islam, JNI, has asked the Plateau State House of Assembly to publicly tender an unalloyed apology to its President-General who is also the Sultan of Sokoto, His Eminence, Muhammad Sa’ad Abubakar III after the House’ Committee on Information made a disparaging reference to the Sultan.

The Plateau State House of Assembly Committee on Information headed by Hon Dasun Philip on 16 September contemptuously calls the name of JNI’s President-General ‘without regard to the exalted positions he occupies in the country.’

The JNI in a statement signed by the Plateau State Publicity Secretary of the Association Sani Mudi alleged that the Information Committee of the Plateau State House of Assembly knowingly and deliberately called the name of the Sultan barely in order to lower to his estimation and that of the entire Muslim population in Nigeria.

The JNI said that the Committee’s act is disgusting considering that it is coming at a time when Dr Muhammad Sa’ad Abubakar is working tirelessly in partnership with his counterparts from CAN to ensure a peaceful working Plateau for both Christians and Muslims living in the state.

“It is on record that His Eminence the Sultan has always shown deep concern over the incessant conflicts in Plateau State and often expressed his commitment to see an end to this orgy of killings and destruction of properties.

“His passion for peace on the Plateau and other restive parts of the country is well known and appreciated by all.

“It is sad to note that while His Eminence is working tirelessly with his CAN Colleagues in peace, harmony and brotherhood as genuine Patriots concerned about peace in the Land, some undesirable elements are, by their conduct, trying to belittle their good work.

“We, therefore, call on the Plateau State House of Assembly to immediately correct this act of disrespect by its committee on information and apologize to all the Muslims in the state forthwith,” the statement read in part.

A copy of the statement of the Plateau State House of Assembly Committee on Information WikkiTimes obtains dated 16 September 2021 and titled: ‘After Two Weeks, Statement and Position of the Plateau State House of Assembly to the Citizens of Plateau’ mentioned some personalities sent by Federal Government to visit Plateau State and facilitate peace, after the killings at Yelwa Zangam Community in Jos North, which among them was the Sultan.

In the statement, the Sultan’s name was mentioned without his tittles; ‘His Eminence,’ ‘Dr’ and ‘President – General’ of Jama’atu Nasrul Islam.
