The School PTA Chairman Alhaji Musa Abdullahi made the call during the 6th Qur’anic Graduation ceremony held on Tuesday at the school premises.

Alhaji Abdullahi explained that the school, established in 2013 during former President’s administration to reduce the number of Almajiri kids on the streets, is now in a critical condition.

He pointed out that most of the classrooms’ roofs have been damaged by yearly recurrrent windstorms over the past five years.

He also lamented the lack of basic facilities, such as seats in the classrooms, functional restrooms, and the dilapidated state of the hostels, which make teaching and learning very difficult.

“The current state of the school poses significant dangers to the safety of students and teachers. The damaged roofs are a hazard, especially during the rainy season, risking injuries from collapsing structures or exposure to harsh weather.”

“The lack of adequate seating forces students to learn in uncomfortable and unsafe conditions, and the absence of functional restrooms raises serious hygiene concerns,” he added.

Headmaster

Malam Mu’azu Labaran, the headmaster, noted that the school had 100 pupils at inception but now has over 2,000 pupils, providing both Islamic and modern education. He advised stakeholders to upgrade the school’s status to a Junior Secondary School to further the education of the pupils.

Malam Labaran decried that the school is in a dire state of disrepair following the destruction of structures by windstorms ove the years.

He noted that several complaints have been forwarded to the concerned authorities, but no positive response has been received yet.

The ward head of Buzaye, Alhaji Adamu Haruna, emphasized the importance of the school, explaining that children from all local government areas (LGA) in Bauchi South are selected based on specified enrollment criteria.

He said it is imperative that immediate action is taken to address these issues and ensure the safety and well-being of the students and staff of the school to foster effective learning and teaching activities.

Responding to the requests, Bauchi State Commissioner for Education, Dr. Jamila Muhammad Dahiru, represented by the Deputy Director of School Services, Malam Ibrahim Abdu, promised to convey the complaints to the relevant authorities for prompt action.
