A Jos-based prominent Islamic scholar Sheikh Sani Yahaya Jingir has defended President Bola Ahmed Tinubu over the recent hike in fuel prices, exonerating him from any blame.
In a viral video shared multiple times on Facebook, Sheikh Jingir was speaking during a religious gathering in which he argued that the increase was planned while Tinubu was out of the country.
He dismissed claims that the president was responsible for the controversial decision that drew public anger across the country.
Jingir who is Chairman of Jos-headquartered JIBWIS, a well-known advocate for the Muslim-Muslim ticket, further accused critics of using the fuel hike as a ploy to blackmail the ticket that Tinubu and Vice President Kashim Shettima represent.

According to him, the detractors are deliberately misleading Nigerians, attempting to tarnish the image of the administration for political gains.
The cleric said “President Tinubu was in China in his effort for Nigeria’s progress when the decision to raise fuel prices was made.
“It is a deliberate attempt by some elements to blackmail the Muslim-Muslim ticket and deceive Nigerians,” Jingir added.

Many social media users have criticised the cleric with many accusing him of supporting the government for material gains to the detriment of his ordinary congregants.
