Just In: Abducted Kaduna School Children Released

The abducted children from Kuriga school in Kaduna State have been released on Sunday morning. The state governor Uba Sani announced this in an official statement via his official X account.

WikkiTimes reports that on March 7, 2024, 287 schoolchildren from LEA Primary School and Government Secondary School, Kuriga, were abducted by gunmen suspected of bandits who took them into the forest and demanded N1bn for their release.

Announcing their release, the governor thanked President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for his commitment to ensuring the safe return of the abducted children.

However, Governor Sani did not specify whether all the abducted children were rescued, but reports indicate that 137 children were released.

The statement partly read “Our special appreciation goes to our dear President, Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR for prioritizing the safety and security of Nigerians and particularly ensuring that the abducted Kuriga school children are released unharmed. While the school children were in captivity, I spoke with Mr. President several times. He shared our pains, comforted us and worked round the clock with us to ensure the safe return of the children.
