Following the Court of Appeal’s judgement that nullified the election of the Speaker of the Bauchi State House of Assembly, members of the House have on Wednesday elected the member representing Hardawa Constituency, Babayo Muhammad to serve as the new Speaker.
Similarly, the lawmakers also elected the member representing Dass Constituency, Ahmad Abdullahi as Deputy Speaker.
WikkiTimes reports that the Court of Appeal in another judgement also nullified the election of the immediate past Deputy Speaker of the House, Jamilu Umarau Dahiru.
The Spokesperson of the House, Musa Nakwada who confirmed the election said the decision of the members of the Assembly to elect new leaders became necessary to fill the voids created by the judgements of the Court of Appeal.
He said as lawmakers, we will continue to work with provisions of the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.
