Just In: Bauchi Reschedules LG Polls to August 17

The Bauchi State Independent Electoral Commission (BASIEC) has announced a change in the date for the upcoming local government elections.

Initially scheduled for August 10, 2024, the elections will now take place on August 17, 2024.

In a press release on Friday, BASIEC Executive Chairman Ahmed Makama cited reasons beyond the commission’s control for the adjustment.

“You may recall that on 7th of June, 2024, I briefed the media that the Bauchi State Independent Electoral Commission (BASIEC) will conduct election for the office of the Chairman and Councilors across the 20 Local Government Areas of the State on 10th August, 2024.

“In line with the above, I wish to announce that because of reasons beyond our control, the Commission deemed it imperative to adjust the date. The election will now hold on the 17th August, 2024,” the statement read in part.

Makama emphasized the importance of this development for political parties, stakeholders, and the general public.

“I call on all political parties, stakeholders, and the general public to take note of this change,” Makama stated.
