Just In: Court Nullifies Taraba Gubernatorial Primary, Wants Rerun in 14 Days

A Jalingo Federal High Court in Taraba State has nullified the All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship primary election that produced Senator Emmanuel Bwacha as the party’s flag bearer for the 2023 general election.

Justice Simon Amobeda, the presiding judge, ordered that a fresh poll be conducted within 14 days of the judgment. In addition, the judge ruled that the party should determine the mode for the fresh primary within seven days from now.

This comes after David Sabo Kente, one of the aspirants in the Taraba APC guber primary, challenged and sued the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Senator Emmanuel Bwacha and APC as the first, second and third defendants respectively. In the lawsuit dated May 26, Kante questioned the legitimacy of the primary’s results.

In view of this, the presiding judge, in determining the substantive suit, noted that the chairman of the Taraba APC Governorship Election Committee had said there was no election and he did not order any election when he addressed a briefing at the Police Headquarters in Jalingo, according to The Nation.
