JUST IN: DSS Confirms Arrest of Suspended CBN Gov, Emefiele

Barely 24 hours after the suspension of Godwin Emefiele as the Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), the Department of State Services (DSS), a covert security agency of the federal government, has confirmed it has arrested him.

DSS said Emefiele is in its custody for investigation.

WikkiTimes had earlier reported that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has suspended Emefiele following the ongoing investigation of his office and the planned reforms in the financial sector of the economy.

A moment later, the rumour of his arrest by the operatives of the DSS spread but was debunked by the agency.

But in a statement from Peter Afunanya, the Public Relations Officer of the agency confirmed that Emefiele is in its custody.

The statement partly reads: “The Department of State Services (DSS) hereby confirms that Mr Godwin Emefiele, the suspended Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) is now in its custody for some investigative reasons.

“The public, particularly the Media, is enjoined to apply utmost caution in the reportage and narratives concerning this.”

Similarly, Bayo Ananuga, the Director Media and Publicity Tinubu/Shettima Campaign, shared a video of the suspended CBN boss’s arrest by the DSS operatives.

Following his suspension, Mr Emefiele was directed to immediately hand over the responsibilities of his office to the Deputy Governor (Operations Directorate), who would serve as the interim Central Bank Governor while investigations and reforms are carried out.
