JUST IN: Ex-Plateau Governor, Dariye, Released From Prison

Joshua Chibi Dariye, the former governor of Plateau State, has been released from the prison facility a few months after he was granted a presidential pardon by Muhammedu Buhari.

Dariye was being persecuted by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) for a N1.16 billion fraud while serving as the governor of the state. He would be sentenced to 14 years in prison on June 12, 2018, for criminal breach of trust and an additional two years for misappropriation of public funds.

Justice Adebukola Banjoko of the Federal High Court, Abuja noted that Dariye was guilty of 15 counts charges bordering on criminal breach of trust and misappropriation of public funds.

The ex-governor was first arraigned on July 13, 2007 at the high court, after which he proceeded to the appeal court with an application to quash all charges, but he was not successful in doing so.
