Students of secondary schools in Bauchi took to the streets to protest the announced plan by education authorities in the state separate boys and girls in public schools in the state.
WikkiTimes recalls that Bauchi State Government said it became necessary to operate uni-sex schools in the state to tame the tide of the spread of immorality and other forms of deviant behaviours among teenage secondary school students.
Last week, Commissioner of Education, Dr Aliyu Usman Tilde, announced the partitioning of secondary schools in the state according to sex. Further, it defers attendance time for the students in some locations.
The protest is coming today (Monday) just hours after schools reopen in Bauchi after end of session holiday to commence a new academic session.
When contacted, the Information Officer Bauchi State Ministry of Education Malam Kafi denied having any knowledge about the protest, adding that ‘you are just informing me about the protest for the first time.’
