Just In: Scores of BAHA Members Injured After Hoodlums’ Attack

Some members of the Bauchi State House of Assembly, BAHA, were injured and rushed to a hospital after a gang of hoodlums attacked them while they were having a meeting at their Guest House in Bauchi on Monday.

The lawmakers were attacked a few days after passing a vote of no confidence on the Speaker of the House Rt. Hon Abubakar Sulaiman and other principal leaders of the house last Friday. Besides, another group of hoodlums attempted to burn down the Complex of the Assembly on Sunday, prompting intervention of police and other security personnel to abort the invaders from accomplishing their mission.

Hon Babale Abubakar, one of the lawmakers attacked, said scores of the legislators were injured and are currently receiving medical attention.

“At least six vehicles were destroyed by the invaders who also smashed window glasses.

“They were over 100 and were carrying guns, sticks and machetes,” he said.

“It was terrifying. Some of us ran towards the exit door and were badly hurt,” he said.

Hon Babale alleged receiving death threats from the invaders, saying, “He said they were ready to kill me. Six members were injured in the process. Some were taken to the hospital and l believe they would be fine.”

“It was a scary situation. It is sad,” he added.

The lawmaker said the matter has been reported to the Commissioner of Police Bauchi State, Umar Maman Sanda.
